Claiming His victory over our family

Breaking Generational Strongholds & Blessing Our Children: Finding our Hope and Truth in Scripture

When we read the Word, we find that spiritual battles are real, generational patterns exist, and parents carry spiritual authority — through the power of the blood of Jesus. We can identify our own strongholds and break them off in the name of Jesus, and we can bless our children through His healing power in us. We can even call on the name of Jesus for the parents of our adopted children, and at the same time claim a new bloodline for our children- not because we are perfect, but because He is.

1. Christ Has Already Defeated the Powers of Darkness

We can walk in confidence: When we are in alignment with God, we have victory. When we come into agreement with the finished work of Jesus, who did not partially defeat Satan- lest we need to complete it for Him, we too are victors. We have Holy Spirit to counsel us, teach us and remind us of everything we have in Christ. In the Trinity, we are secure.

  • Deuteronomy 12:28: Be careful to obey all these regulations I am giving you, so that it may always go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is good and right in the eyes of the Lord your God."
  • Colossians 2:13–15: “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame …”
  • 1 John 3:8: “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.”
  • 1 John 5:4: "For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith".
  • 1 Corinthians 15:57: "But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ".
  • Psalm 108:13:  "With God we shall do valiantly; it is he who will tread down our foes."
  • Romans 8:37: "Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us".
  • John 14:15-17, 20-21, 25-27:  "If you love me, you will obey what I command.  And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever-- the Spirit of Truth. ...On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.  Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me.  How who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.  ...The Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have said to you.  Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.  I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."
  • John 16:33 - "I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Because Jesus holds all authority, believers do not fight for victory — we fight from victory.
