Cleansed by the Blood, Inheriting His Power

Chapter 6: A NEW INHERITANCE

Parents often ask:

“How do I deal with the things in our family history, or their family history, that I don’t want my children to carry?”
“I hear so many adopted children return to their biological parents, or even if they don’t they return to the patterns of their biological parents. "
"Am I powerless to change generational cycles in my adopted child?"
"Am I raising a child only to lose them?”
“How do I pray over my children’s identity?”
“Is my child affected by generational patterns, even if I got them as a newborn?”
“Do I have evil spirits in my home from all the kids we fostered?"
"How do I get the peace of God in my home- again, or for the first time?”
“Are there evil spirits in this child I adopted- in their blood line- that I will be constantly battling?"

These are tender, serious questions that need to be answered, and we may even have opportunity to directly answer to our children; so we must be ready with biblical clarity, spiritual authority, and emotional safety.

Scripture gives the answer—not in fear, but in power and freedom.

As a parent, you have authority to pray over all of your children, break ungodly patterns, renounce generational sin, and establish your home under the lordship of Jesus Christ. Your example, and the atmosphere you set in your home, will set the tone. So, though you may think you are asking for help for your children, claim this over yourself as well. The way that we believe is the way that we live, and the way that our children will learn to see life.

When we consider the power of our prayers and example, we must remember:

  • Christ has already defeated the powers of darkness (Colossians 2:13–15).
  • Believers have authority in His name, to cast out demons (Luke 10:17-19).
  • Generational patterns (sins, habits, strongholds) can be broken through repentance, blessing, and surrender to God (Exodus 20:5–6, Nehemiah 9).
  • Parents have spiritual authority to pray protection and blessing over their children (Job 1:5, Psalm 91).
  • Evil cannot claim ownership where the blood of Christ is applied (Revelation 12:11, Romans 8:31-39).
  • We must be filled with the Holy Spirit, with knowledge and wisdom to fight spiritual battles (Matthew 12:43-45, Proverbs 24:3-6, Ephesians 6:18)

In Christ, we have the authority to pray over and bless our children, because ultimately, we -and they- are Gods':

1. Renouncing generational sin and strongholds

You stand as a mother or father in Christ and say,
“Every pattern in this family line that is not from God stops with me.”

2. Declaring your home under the authority of Jesus

Your authority is in Christ’s finished work.

3. Blessing your children with the inheritance of the Kingdom

Blessing is stronger than curse. Life is stronger than death. Light is stronger than darkness.

4. Establishing identity, belonging, and spiritual covering over them

Your children need to know:
“You belong to Jesus. You are covered. You are loved. You are protected.”

The God who calls Himself El Shaddai (God of more-than-enough), Jehovah Jireh (the Lord who provides), Jehovah Shalom (the Lord our peace), Jehovah Nissi (the Lord our victory), Jehovah Rohi (the Lord our Shepherd), El Elyon (God Most High), and Abba Father, invites you and your family into His overflowing goodness.

This chapter and the appendices following will be great references, guides you can copy, post, meditate on and repeat over your children. They will show you how to reshape your family culture through truth, blessing, and spiritual authority—not through fear, superstition, or formulas, but through the power of the gospel and the love of God.

We are all adopted from our sinful nature to the nature of God in the perfection of Christ. We are all exiled, claimed by our Heavenly Father. We must choose to live as children of God. we must "be careful, and watch ourselves closely so that we do not forget the things our eyes have seen or let them slip from our heart as long as we live. We must teach them to our children and to their children after." (Deuteronomy 4:9) In doing this, we will inherit the blessings of God.

The following will be for you and for your children: because you want to show your children how to "Run to their Father".
